The Church of Faith had it’s beginning when I, the Pastor, Pauline Price, had a felt deep burden for the people of the area to have a Church close that they could come to. Then, by coming, they could hear the good news of the gospel. And, by the Holy Spirit opening their hearts, their desire would be to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
From this burden for souls to be saved, the Church of Faith was born, and was started in part of my home, my husband being agreeable to do this. On July 14, 1968, we had our first service, Douglace Gritman of Canton, giving the first sermon. The first year, we had visiting ministers officiate. Then, in 1969, I became the Pastor of the Church of Faith.
In January of 1970 the Church was incorporated as an independent body of believers, adhering to the Bible as the Holy word of God, in all of its entirety. We have upheld those beliefs. At this time, we chose seven directors to control the financial matters of the Church.
In an evening service, I was ordained as a Minister of the Gospel by Rev. Wayne Daley, President of Faith Bible College of Boston, Mass. Soon after this we elected Deacons and Deaconesses, spiritual leaders of the Church.
In the same year of 1970, my husband gave us two and a half acres of land on the main road, four miles from Skowhegan, for the price of one dollar; also my husband loaned us money to hire a contractor to have the church built at no interest.
Our First year we had one missionary work, which was sent monthly to Oral Roberts University. We now carry on ten missions a month. This involves a radio broadcast to the Jews in Israel; two orphans in India; a minister in Korea, and one in Columbia, South America; one in Japan; Brother Andrew smuggling Bibles into Russia; World Literature Crusade; Faith Theology in Charleston, Me.; Herald of His Coming (newspaper) and a missionary in Africa.
We give to God all the glory, as we have given to His servants All our needs have been met, and we are debt free. One can never out give God.
We had a 60 passenger bus to pick up children for Sunday school. Floyd Robinson drove the bus to transport the children. Even though most of the parents didn’t attend, many children accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior. We owe a debt of gratitude to all our Sunday School teachers. They are very dedicated, and each child is special.
My heartfelt thanks goes to the Methodist Church of Skowhegan. They gave us pews, altar rails, and the pulpit, which was made by Rev. Burbank, the Pastor, whom I work with for many years as Sunday school teacher.
My husband, Everett, has been an inspiration to me through the years. Without him, there would be no church. And without him to encourage me, I would not have begun.
My two daughters and their husbands have been pillars in the church. My oldest, Rita Herbert, has been ever faithful in playing the piano, and my younger daughter, Joan, playing the organ. Both daughters also teach Sunday School and conduct many other duties.
Rita’s husband, Donald Herbert, has done much of the paneling, and built us a beautiful kitchen, and dining area. Also putting in the staging for the pulpit and choir. Joan’s husband, Frank, worked many nights well after dark, hammering out the posts and beams, which we acquired from a garage that was torn down in Waterville.
All the wiring was done by a dear Brother in the Lord, Brother Leonard Wade. He is now with the Lord. The men of the Church did all the paneling in the worship center. They worked as one.
After about 12 year, my health being poor, I prayed for God to show me what His choice would be to carry on the work. We interviewed quite a few, but eventually, when it became necessary to take some time off, my son-in-law, Frank, agreed to fill in for me. During this time (about a month) God put his seal on the choice through saving souls and baptizing others with the Holy Spirit. He and my daughter Joan took hold of the work, and also ran a Christian School for a number of years.
I can honestly say, that through it all, my Jesus held the reins, and led us every step, all by faith. He will bring to pass, all you will ask, if you ask in faith, believing.
